A SEND-OFF TO LT/CHIEF GUILLEMETTE...
A celebration of now-Chief David Guillemette’s service to the Town of Sandwich was held on Friday, September 26 at the Pilot House. Dave and his family arrived to cheers and applause, and Dave had to spend several minutes being greeted by well-wishers and shaking hands. Lt. Mike Nurse and Sgt. Bruce Lawrence got the festivities under way, beginning with a series of quizzes, Dave's favorite tactic during Citizens Police Academy classes. Little-known fact (to use one of Dave's catch phrases) about Dave (and the only negative one that Lt. Nurse could find in his personnel file) was the long-ago incident that occurred when he drove his cruiser into a parked school bus. Or so the story goes. Representative Randy Hunt presented Dave with a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives signed by Speaker DeLeo; Town Manager Bud Dunham gave Dave a gift that both Dave and his wife can enjoy--martini glasses made by glassblower Michael Magyar; and Chief Whearty, who was responsible for hiring Dave in the first place, presented Dave with an award on behalf of Chief Wack. The Police Association gave him a Smith and Wesson 45mm automatic in a beautiful presentation box, and the SCPAA gave him a framed collage made up of photos of all of the Citizens Police Academy classes. Dave thanked everybody, especially his family for having been so supportive during his career. He says he loves his new job, and we are glad. But we sure do miss him!!
... and a new beginning in Harwich

Our own (former) Lt. Dave Guillemette was sworn in as the new Chief of Police in Harwich on July 20th. Several members of the SCPAA Board of Directors, representing the Citizens Police Academy Association, attended the ceremony. As proof of Dave's popularity, representatives from other police and fire departments from across the Cape were also on hand to congratulate him, including officers from Chatham, Yarmouth, and Mashpee as well as Sandwich. Dave thanked his family for their support and gave a shout-out to the SCPAA. He said that his new position is his "dream job," and even though we will miss him a LOT, we know that he will be a huge asset to the Harwich Police Department.

GOOD LUCK, CHIEF GUILLEMETTE!
It was standing room only upstairs at the Sandwich Town Hall on Monday afternoon; friends, family, and SCPAA volunteers were on hand to applaud 3 promotions for members of the Sandwich Police Department. Chief Peter Wack promoted Officer Michael Gumbleton to the rank of Detective, Officer Adam Traynor to the rank of Sergeant, and Sergeant Jason Keene to the rank of Lieutenant. Chief Wack also recognized the retirement of Detective Robert Brun, whose last day on the job was Friday, July 3rd, after 21 years of service.
Last but not least, the Chief saluted Lt. David Guillemette, who will be officially joining the Harwich Police Department as Chief on July 20th. Chief Wack presented Dave with his first set of Chief's stars and also presented him with an Outstanding Service award from the Sandwich Police Department.
