Class of 15-18 Week #1
WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION AND TOUR OF THE SANDWICH POLICE FACILITY
After being delayed a week by the arrival of Winter Storm Skylar, session 15-18 of the Sandwich Citizens Police Academy finally got under way on March 22nd. This is an interesting group--many newcomers to Sandwich and many people who had been convinced by prior graduates that this was a fabulous opportunity to have some fun while learning about the Sandwich Police Department. Students were introduced to Sgt. Bruce Lawrence and Sgt. Lauren Gilrein, who will be leading the class; Lt. Jason Keene, Officer Paul Grigorenko, and Chief Peter Wack. The Chief gave an overview of the rank structure and organization of the PD and commented that Sandwich was recently listed in the Top 100 Safest Communities in America. The class was treated to a tour of the current police facility--always an eye-opener. Completion of the new facility is expected sometime in early 2019--hopefully in time for next year's class. Sgt. Lawrence went over the guidelines for ride-alongs, warning the class that sometimes nothing much happens, and sometimes LOTS of stuff happens. But the ride is always informative and interesting.
Next week's class: Introduction to Constitutional Law.
