Class 14-17 GRADUATION!
The Sandwich Citizens Police Academy Class 14-17 celebrated graduation in style on Thursday, June 8th, at the Dan'l Webster Inn. There were 21 graduates this year, many of whom have expressed an interest in becoming alumni volunteers. The police honor guard included Chief Wack, Sgt. Lawrence, Lt. Bound, Lt. Keene, and Officer Gilrein.
Sgt. Lawrence called each graduate up to the podium individually to hand out diplomas and "swag bags," which included personalized jackets, commemorative mugs, challenge coins, and pins with the SPD logo. Students were also given information on how to join the alumni association.
Class representative Josh Himelrick gave a brief synopsis of the 12 weeks of training and presented the police department with a "donation"--not a gift--of a digital camera.
Several volunteers received Special Recognition awards for their prompt response to a medical emergency suffered by our friend Joe after class in April. Volunteers included Kevin Paice, alumni president Mike Miller, Bob and Jeanne Nichols, and Sue and Dennis Driscoll. Everybody gave Sgt. Lawrence a standing ovation for his stellar CPR skills.
Dinner was then served, always delicious at the DW, followed by a slide show of photos taken during the 12 weeks of class. As usual, a fun and enjoyable evening!
