GRADUATION!
SCPAA Class of 12-15 GRADUATION: June 10, 2015 at the Dan'l Webster Inn
Graduation night for the Citizens Police Academy class of 12-15 was bittersweet. On the one hand, we had 27 new graduates celebrating having survived 12 weeks of pretty intense training, both in the classroom and off-site--the firing range, ride-alongs, and the tour of the Barnstable County Jail. On the other hand, it was Lt. Guillemette's last graduating class before he leaves to become the Harwich Chief of Police in July. So, we're happy for him, but sad that we won't be seeing him up in front of a new class of Academy students, giving out stickers, regaling the class with "fun facts," pinching the bridge of his nose and saying "Stand by!"
Graduates received the customary "bag of swag," which included not one but TWO photos of the graduating class to ensure that everybody was in at least one of the photos. Everybody received personalized windbreakers and instructions on how to join our very active group of alumni volunteers. Barbara Knight received the Top Gun award for her expertise on the firing range. You can see a photo of her blowing her own hat off on the web page. Beth Friend was recognized for her enthusiastic participation in class every week. Several alumni volunteers--Kevin Paice, Mike Miller, Pam Lungarini, Pauline and Jerry Fortin, Carolyn Motta, John and Donna Leiss, and Heather Marshall--were recognized for their contributions to the smooth running of the class every week; and Veronica Guillemette put together a terrific slide show, highlighting various class activities from the 12 weeks.
Several graduates were heard wondering what they'll do on Thursday nights from now on; we hope that many of them will join the Alumni Association! Volunteers are always needed, and we have a great time working together.
