2016 Annual Meeting

Forty SCPAAA members attended the 2016 Annual Meeting on October 13, 2016 at the Human Services building on Quaker Meetinghouse Road. We were treated to an update of the Board of Directors by Vice President Jerry Fortin (filling in for ailing President Mike Miller) and an update from Treasurer Dennis Driscoll; a very informative explanation of the effects of Ballot question #4 from Representative Randy Hunt; an introduction to and information from the new Sandwich Harbormaster, John Kondratowicz; and a look at the new Sandwich Public Safety project from Chief Wack. Deputy Chief Mike Nurse reviewed the town's "Conflict of Interest" and "Red Book". Meanwhile, we were treated to a delicious "not-so-light" refreshments from the Pilot House.

We were also delighted to have Lt. Joshua Bound and Sgt. Bruce Lawrence in attendance!

Toys for Tots: November 28 and December 4, 2016

The first "Toys for Tots" drive was held from 9:00 to 1:00, November 28, at the Quaker Meetinghouse Stop and Shop, and the second was December 4 at the store on 6A. Thank you, Citizen Volunteers, for assisting the Sandwich Police and Fire Departments in this
wonderful cause.

The Lighting of the Littlest Christmas Tree

On Sunday evening, November 27, 5 volunteers assisted at the town center for the reading of a Thornton Burgess story and the Lighting of the Littlest Christmas Tree on Shawme Pond. Thank you to Beth Friend, Charles Holden, Mike Miller, Jeanne Nichols and Kevin Paice!

The SCPAA collected $500 in monetary donations for
SECRET SANTA
to allow our School Resource Officer Christa Cabral to make Christmas a little happier for some less fortunate students in the various schools.

Trunk or Treat!!

Picture
The second annual "Trunk or Treat" was held October 29 at the Heritage Museums & Gardens. Adorable kids and amazing costumes took center stage, as the little ones (and some costumed parents) were treated to an abundance of sugar, we mean ... candy! Our very own SCPAA witch (initials P.L.) assisted with the hayrides. The weather couldn't have been better, and the 18 SCPAA volunteers enjoyed it all.

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers: Kathy Barbaro, Jill Briggs, Sue & Dennis Driscoll, Pauline & Jerry Fortin, Charles Holden, Donna & John Leiss, Ken Mooney, Jeanne Nichols, Kevin Paice, Michael Robbins, Nancy & Carl Rose, Sue & John Vibberts, and our leader, Mike Miller!
Thank you to our photographers, Pauline Fortin & Sue Vibberts.

Halloween Night Patrol

We don't have any pictures of Halloween Night Patrol because, well, it was dark! The amount of trick-or-treaters was smaller this year, maybe because it was a school night. But our intrepid volunteers were on hand regardless:

Jackie England, Bernie Ferioli, Jerry Fortin, Charles Holden. Sue & Jim Leavey, Heather Marshall, Debbie Merriam, Mike Miller, Ken Mooney, Jeanne Nichols, Kevin Paice, Amanda Pederzani, Carl Rose, Sue Vibberts

September 18 Bucket-fill!

Picture
What better way to spend a Sunday before the Patriots game? Thanks to the 19 Sandwich Citizens Police volunteers who, under the direction of Officer Christa Cabral, assembled 130 5-gallon safety buckets for all the school rooms. Another example of many hands making light - and FUN - work! GREAT JOB everyone!

Volunteers: Ron Ayotte, Jill Briggs, Jackie England, Kaye and Bernie Ferioli, Colleen Hayes, Judy Hendy, Charlie Holden, Earl Lantery, Pam Lungarini, Mike Miller, Ken Mooney, Carolyn Motta, Bob Nichols, Frank Panorfi, Carl Rose, Maureen Schneider, Sue and John Vibberts.

September Already!

Picture
After a quiet summer (thankfully, NO hurricanes - yet, anyway - things are beginning to heat up again for us. On September 8, 2016, SCPAA Chairperson and Volunteer #1, Mike Miller, sent a call-out for help at the schools keeping voters, schoolchildren, teachers and school buses sorted. Many thanks to the ten volunteers: Doug Dexter, Sue and Dennis Driscoll, Jerry Fortin, Phil Johnson, Donna and John Leiss, Mike Miller, Jeanne Nichols, Carl Rose, and Sue Vibberts!

July 2, 2016

The Sandwich Police, with the help of the Sandwich Citizens Police, had another very successful Food Drive for the Sandwich Food Pantry. Cash donations came to $1759.80 and food donations amounted to $13,178.75. Thank you to all who helped, and to the many people in town who so generously donated!

2016 ANNUAL MEETING

The Sandwich Citizens Police Academy Alumni held its annual meeting on Thursday evening, March 10, at the Human Services Building. Following a pretty tasty buffet of salad and sandwiches, we got down to the business of electing new officers: Mike Miller is the new President, Jerry Fortin is the new Vice President, Dennis Driscoll is the new Treasurer, and Colleen Hayes is the new Secretary.

Chief Wack and Deputy Chief Nurse thanked us for all the work we do, and Lieutenant Josh Bound presented our outgoing President, Kevin Paice, with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his 5 years of dedicated service as President of the Alumni. Technically, Kevin was limited to 2 terms as President, but he stepped up as Interim President following the death of Jim Fair.

Kevin presented several Certificates of Recognition to thank SCPAA Board members for their service: Carolyn Motta for 12 years of dedication to SCPAA, Colleen Hayes for her assistance to the President, Ron Ayotte for his exemplary duties as Treasurer, and Judy Hendy for her dedication to the Scholarship Committee.

Picture
Sue Vibberts and Donna Leiss received floral bouquets as thanks for ensuring that SCPAA’s Web site is current and informative (Sue) and keeping the community informed of SCPAA’s activities via the local newspapers (Donna).

Sue Vibberts presented Kevin with a photo collage of him taken during his tenure as President; in the photos he’s always smiling and having a good time!

A LETTER FROM THE PAST PRESIDENT, KEVIN PAICE:

I joined the Alumni group 9 years ago after completing the Citizens Police Academy in June of 2007.

In the past 8 years, I have served on the Board of Directors as Vice President and Volunteer Coordinator and since 2012 I have served as President of this organization.

I am very proud that each year the SCPAA has continued to grow in the scope of its activities and has developed a reputation for getting the job done when needed. During all these years, the focus of the Board was to create an organization to provide service to the Police Department and the Town of Sandwich. It is because of the number of dedicated volunteers that we have been able to fulfill this mission.

While I will continue to volunteer for activities in the future, the time has come for me to step aside in my leadership role of the organization. However, I am able to do so knowing that we have set a strong foundation for this group to continue to grow upon.

Thank you to Chief Wack, Deputy Chief Nurse, and all of the other officers for their guidance and support of this organization.

I ask all of you to support Mike Miller, as he takes over the role of President of the organization. Thank you to the members of the Board who have supported me throughout these years.

Kevin
