2014 ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
CHRISTMAS PARTY
This year's Holiday/Christmas party was held on Friday, December 6, at the Sandwich Hollows Cafe. We had the entire upstairs to ourselves, and we made use of it!
2014 ANNUAL MEETING
52014 Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting of the Sandwich Citizens Police Academy Alumni, Inc. was held on Thursday, March 13 at the Human Resources building. Following a delicious pizza dinner and birthday cake celebrating Kevin Paice’s birthday, we had a very interesting update from JJ Burke about the happenings in town. If you missed the meeting, you missed some very good information!
Then Kevin led the nominations and elections for the SCPAA Board of Directors. According to our By-Laws, a President and First Vice President cannot serve more than two years. Luckily, Jim Fair volunteered to become the President, and Colleen Hayes agreed to the office of First Vice President. Since there is no limit on the number of terms for Second Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, Lt. David Guillmette, Carolyn Motta and Ron Ayotte were re-elected to those terms respectively.
The Sandwich Police Department and Sandwich Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni presented out-going President Kevin Paice with plaques commemorating his outstanding service as President of the Board. We are happy to announce that Kevin has agreed to stay on the Board as Event Coordinator, a role he will share with Mike Miller.

2014 SEMI-ANNUAL MEETING

2014 Semi-Annual SCPAA Meeting
Following a delicious lasagna dinner provided by our “cook extraordinaire” Pam Lungarini, we had a chance to meet the new Fire Chief, William Carrico. Chief Carrico filled us in on the latest happenings at the Fire Station, including the status of the new Public Safety Building plans, and answered our general questions.
The meeting was also attended by the Sandwich 375 Board of Directors, who thanked the SCPAA volunteers who participated at the many Sandwich 375 events. In their effusive thanks they also graced the 375 volunteers with handsome new shirts emblazoned with the new SCPAA patch and the Sandwich 375 logo. Most generous of all, they presented the Academy Alumni Association with a check in the amount of $1000!

2014 VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Sandwich First Night - December 31, 2014
The SCPAAA again assisted the Town in it's celebration of "First Night Sandwich". We gathered at the Police Station at 6:00pm to get our Operational Plan from Lt. Guillemette, then headed out to the side streets along the parade route. With the help of Team Leader Mike Miller we assisted with one fallen attendee and one temporarily-lost child, while we all shivered in our multiple layers in the 18 degree cold. Thank goodness it was at least a clear, windless night!
Hardy volunteers at this event were Mike Miller, Chris Dumas, Sarah Triplett, Andrew Jones, Jerry Fortin, Donna and John Leiss, and Sue and John Vibberts.

July 4 Road Race and Parade We dodged a few of “Hurricane” Arthur’s raindrops and cheered on the runners in the road race and the parade participants. It was a great parade, but it really needed the SCPAA float! Maybe next year? Many thanks to this year’s volunteers: Ron Ayotte, Bernie Ferioli, Colleen Hayes, Andrew Jones, Donna & John Leiss, Jeanne Nichols, Bob O’Connor, Roni Pierce and Gary Gronlund, Carl Rose, Sue & John Vibberts, and of COURSE Kevin Paice! |
2014 "Stuff a Cruiser" for the Sandwich Food Pantry
The 2014 “Stuff a Cruiser”: Another huge success! The SCPA Alumni joyfully assisted Officer Daniel Perkins and theSandwich Police Department in the collection of needed items for the Sandwich Food Pantry. According to Roni Pierce, an SCPA graduate who also works at the food pantry:
“We collected $740.75 in cash and 166 boxes of food with another 50 boxes of toilet paper and 25 boxes of diapers and baby wipes. … A dollar amount cannot be given at this time, as we are still putting away boxes.
We are so grateful for everyone who took time out for this food drive.”
Many thanks to Officer Perkins and his family, and Lt. Guillemette for organizing the drive, and to Kevin Paice for ensuring it ran smoothly! And a special thanks to all came from Lt. Guillemette:
Once again the SCPAA volunteers provided the backbone of the Sandwich Police Food Drive operation this past Saturday. The event was a great success because of the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Special recognition and thanks to Officer Dan Perkins for his leadership, Andrew Jones and Roni Pierce who made the pick-ups and of course Kevin Paice for his usual exemplary logistical support. Thank you again to all who gave freely of their valuable time to support this good cause. Great job! "
Our volunteers for this event were Pam Lungarini, Marianne Vaudreuil, Ron Vandreuil, Jeanne Nichols, Pauline & Jerry Fortin, Bob O’Connor, Debbie Merriam, John Gedutis, Susan Baird, Bernie Ferioli, Donna & John Leiss, Ron Ayotte, Carolyn Motta, Coleen Hayes, Andrew Jones, Gerry Nye, and John & Sue Vibberts. SANDWICH 375 CELEBRATIONS
2014 was a grand year for the Town of Sandwich. Over thirty events were held over the year, and ten of them required the assistance of the SCPAA.
Sandwich 375: Daffodil Festival – April 26, 2014
The Sandwich 375 Daffodil Festival held on April 26 was very well attended in spite of the cold, rainy, raw day. A number of SCPAA donned their raincoats and heavy jackets and helped out by parking cars, under the steadfast direction of Mike Miller. Many thanks to all who were able to help out, including our favorite “easter egg”(who shall remain nameless) and Mike, Jim Fair, Pam Lungarini, Jackie England, Maureen Schneider, and Sue Vibberts.

Then, on August 23, we assisted with crowd control at the Sandwich 375 1900 BASH Cavalcade of Cars parade, which included the amazing Budweiser Clydesdales. At least at this event we were able to capture some pictures!
A huge thanks to Andrew Jones, Bill Diedering, Carl Rose, Colleen Hayes, Jim Fair, Jeanne Nichols, John and Sue Vibberts, Kevin Paice, Pam Lungarini, Ron Ayotte, and Roni Pierce. |
We were too busy to capture photos, but the SCPAA presence was seen at both the Sandwich 375 1800 BASH (July 19) and SeaFest (July 26). The dedicated and always reliable team of Kevin Paice, Mike Miller and Andrew Jones covered the 1800 BASH. And many thanks as well to Kevin, Mike, Andrew, Bernie Ferioli, Carl Rose, Jackie England, Jeanne Nichols, and John Vibberts for representing the SCPAA at SeaFest.
Grande Parade
The grandest parade ever in Sandwich and possibly the Cape was held on September 13, 2014, and the Sandwich Citizens Police Academy Alumni showed up in bigger numbers than ever before.
Thankfully, the weather on the day of the Grande Parade couldn’t have been better, as 26 SCPA Alumni arrived for our final pre-briefing with team leaders Kevin Paice and Mike Miller, and Lt. Guillemette when he was able to free himself from all his other responsibilities.

The parade kicked off at around 1:20 and the SCPAA were ready! We lined the two-mile parade loop and controlled a (thankfully) happy and respectful crowd.
The “Hot Wash”, when we all finally relax and tell our stories of the day. This has to be one of the best parts of the day!
With thanks and kudos to Bill Diedering (a SCPA graduate!) for an outstanding parade, AND a complimentary barbeque for us all after the parade!
